Amines: Carbylamine reaction or isocyanide test

Carbylamine reaction
 Aliphatic and aromatic primary amines on heating with chloroform and ethanolic potassium hydroxide forms isocyanide or Carbylamines which are foul smelling substance. This reaction is called carbylamine reaction or isocyanide test and is used as test for primary amines.
 Secondary and tertiary amines do not show this reaction.
